Service & Outreach Grant Program


Purpose

The purpose of The Service and Outreach Grant Program is to assist the funding of innovative service and outreach ministries which respond to Christ’s call to ease human suffering, and advance the mission of the Church consistent with the interests of John XXIII parishioners.

Service and Outreach Grant Program (SOGP) Committee

The SOGP Committee was established to provide a process by which parishioners can request parish assistance in the funding of creative ministries that advance the mission of the Church.

The committee consists of five active parishioners, one of whom will serve as the chairman, plus the church pastor.  The committee will meet a minimum of three times per year.

The primary functions of the committee include:

  • Review and approve funding requests
  • Assist active parishioners in meaningful service and mission opportunities.
  • Increase parish participation and general awareness of ministry activities
  • Evaluate and follow up on approved funded ministry activities to ensure grants have been used in a manner consistent with the original request
  • Provide an annual report to the parish summarizing the committee’s activities and supported grants for the year

Grant Awards

Parishioners or other charitable organizations may request a grant to help cover the costs of worthwhile projects. Limits on Grant Awards are:

  • Cash awards from $150 to a maximum of $5,000
  • No grant award will cover the full-anticipated costs of any project.  Every applicant is expected to generate a substantial portion of project costs from other sources.
  • Grants will be dispensed in two parts. The first payment will cover only a portion of the total grant.  The final payment will be awarded at or near the completion of the project.

In lieu of cash awards, a limited number of projects may be granted an opportunity for Pulpit Appeal in order to solicit assistance directly from the parish. It is projected that Pulpit Appeals will be limited to two occasions a semester.

Grant Award Applications

Grant award applications can be downloaded, are available in the Parish Office or can be requested by email from grants@john23rd.org. Applications must be submitted in fully finished form no later than one week prior to the regularly scheduled Mission Committee Meeting.  

The committee will review and decide on applications.   If more requests are received than funds are available, it is possible that potential awardees will receive less than the requested amount of funding.  Final approval of grants rests with the church pastor.
